Hole in a fiberglass tub
The fiberglass in this corner of the tub was apparently very thin and hole developed. Using a fiberglass repair kit, the tub was salvaged, save the homeowner a lot of money. Changing a bathtub is no easy task, so thankfully this type of repair is possible.

Preparing the hole
The hole must be sanded and the surrounding fiberglass scored; otherwise, the patch will not hold.

Fiberglass Mat
A small section of fiberglass matting is cut and fitted to the correct size.

Mixing Resin
As with any repair of fiberglass, resin and hardener must be mixed.

Applying the Patch
Next, the patch is impregnated with resin and centered over the hole.

Applying Filler
After the resin cures, filler is applied over the patch and allowed to dry.

Sanding
The filler is shaped and sanded repeatedly until the desired contour is achieved. This process requires several days.

New Finish
Using the Homax Tough-Tile product, a new almond finish is applied over the patch. For this repair, the homeowner did not wish the entire tub sprayed.

Initial Coating
The area to be coated is masked off and repetitive coats are applied.

Final Product
The final repair looked pretty good. The challenge with any product of this sort is correct color match; consequently, it is advisable to coat the entire tub.
