Gas Cooktop Repair
One element on this cooktop would not ignite; the gas valve opened, but the spark ignition did not function. ORMECO technicians traced the problem to a damaged wiring harness. Oil from cooking processes made its way down the shaft of the switch mechanism (picture three) and past the protective washers. The cooking oil ruined the switch mechanism.
Each knob on a gas stove controls two functions: 1) Turning the knob changes the position of a mechanical valve that varies the amount of gas flow, and 2) The knob is connected to an electrical switch. When the knob is rotated, the switch enables a high voltage power supply that produces an electric arc that ignites the burner. Since all switches are wired in parallel, rotating any knob on the stove will cause all the burners to arc.
